KMUW has received three awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.
Jedd Beaudoin received a first-place award in the complete news feature/enterprise coverage for his story on the Smart Brothers.
In the late 1960s, Wichita was racially segregated, but that didn't stop the Smart Brothers Band from attracting mixed-race audiences at Smart's Palace. Nearly every night the Smart Brothers Band, including Leroy, Vernon, John and Richard, packed the house at the family's club at 1009 E. 9th St.
Carla Eckels received a second-place award in the spot news category for her reporting on the Scott Roeder sentencing. Roeder received the Hard 50 in April for murdering Wichita abortion provider George Tiller.
KMUW also received a second-place award for its station website. The award was shared by Chandra Stauffer and Kerri Wood Thompson.
