The event begins at noon Friday, May 8, the first day of the Wichita River Festival. It鈥檚 being held in front of the Wichita Public Library, 223 S. Main.

Wichita鈥檚 three living World War II veterans who liberated Orleans, France, in 1944 will be honored.
The first liberation of Orleans took place in 1429 when Jeanne d鈥橝rc (also known as Joan of Arc) led the French army against the English.
The second liberation occurred during WWII when soldiers from Wichita serving in the 137th Infantry brought freedom to Orleans on Aug. 16, 1944.
