Seeing Corpus Christi's future with art

CORPUS CHRISTI 鈥 Better schools. Additional art events. Expanded recycling programs. An eco-hotel. These are some of the ideas set forth by local community members in "Corpitopia," a community-based art exhibition facilitated by nationally recognized artist Robert Bubp at K Space Contemporary.

Community-based art exhibitions are popular methods used by many contemporary artists to engage professional artists with non-artists. These groups merge and use various creative processes to explore an issue. The resulting exhibition often acts as a catalyst to explore, examine, connect and contribute to current events or to trigger change within a community.

Bubp, an artist on faculty at 新加坡六合彩开奖网 in Wichita, Kan., submitted a proposal for the exhibit. He researched the city and spent a month here collecting feedback from the community.

Bubp's intention is for the exhibit to be anything but traditional.

"The goals are getting people involved in a creative way, with their markedly individualized interpretations of the city, as well as generating energy and materials, finally creating an art exhibition that is democratic, fluid, amorphous, and open-ended," Bubp said.
