Chaparro is a professor of psychology and has served as the chair of psychology since 2010. He replaces the founding director of the institute and first holder of the professorship, Teresa Radebaugh, who retires June 1.

The one-year contract worth more than $600,000 will provide for 18 student support positions in the fall semester and up to 30 positions by the end of the contract.
